Obedience that works past the end of your driveway

Ozark is close enough to Springfield that weekly lessons are easy, which makes it one of the few towns in our area where you genuinely get to choose between private lessons and an immersive board and train. Both end with the same six commands. They differ in how far the training is pushed and how much of the work you do yourself.

Ozark, Missouri

Built for how Ozark dogs actually live

Ozark is the county seat of Christian County and the third largest city in the Springfield metro area, sitting on US 65 with its own business loop and Missouri Route 14 running through it. That short hop up US 65 is why Ozark owners are some of the most likely in our service area to do the four-lesson or eight-lesson package rather than sending the dog away.

Finley Creek and the Finley River run through town, and the city's parks include Finley River Park, Neal Grubaugh Park, the Garrison Springs Community Forest and the Chadwick Flyer trail, which follows the route of the historic rail line. Anywhere with water, joggers and other dogs is a test, and it is a better test than your back yard will ever be.

That is deliberate on our side. We do not generally train dogs inside the house, because a dog that only listens in a familiar room has not learned anything portable. Training happens in an unfamiliar place with distractions running, which is what makes the command hold up when you actually need it.

What The Training Covers

What your dog learns with us in Ozark

The core commands

Come, sit, place, down, heel and off. The same six commands sit at the base of every Off Leash K9 package, whether you train in lessons or send your dog for board and train.

Loose-leash walking

The fourth basic obedience lesson is loose-leash walking, so your dog walks beside you instead of towing you down the sidewalk. A 15 ft training leash is included with the package.

Off-leash reliability

Built through the two week board and train, where your dog works off leash, outdoors, with real distractions in play. It is a board and train outcome, not something lessons alone deliver.

Manners that hold up in public

Door, greeting and meal manners, plus socialization around people and other dogs and high-level distraction proofing, all covered in the two week board and train.

Daily updates, then a full handover

Your trainer sends daily updates with a photo or video while your dog is with them, and finishes with a two hour one-on-one session showing you how to handle everything your dog has learned.

What Southwest Missouri dog owners say

“McKenzie was AMAZING!!! Provided daily updates on progress with photos, and videos, and explaining what she’s doing and why. Maggie came back with so many tools in her toolbelt to set her up for success. Thank you for care and dedication you provided to our pup!”

Seth WallaceVerified Google review

“Breanna did an amazing job with Lola! We adopted Lola from the humane society and she was a wild pup. I tried training a little bit myself but was overwhelmed with my 3 littles plus a pup. I found K9 Off Leash online and it was the best thing ever. Lola is a new pup!…”

Lauren NobleVerified Google review

“McKenzie did a great job with Walter. She loves the dogs as her own while they are with her and takes pride in the puppy’s advancement. I was apprehensive about the electronic training but after meeting McKenzie, we knew Walter was in good hands with appropriate behavior modification.…”

Questions

Dog training in Ozark, answered

Do you train dogs in Ozark, MO?

Yes. Ozark is inside the area Off Leash K9 Training Southwest Missouri covers. We are not a walk-in storefront, so your trainer confirms the training location with you when you book. One thing worth knowing up front: we generally do not train dogs inside your house. It is easy for a dog to listen at home, and a dog that only listens at home has not really learned the command. Training in an unfamiliar place, with distractions, is what makes obedience hold up anywhere.

How does board and train work if I live in Ozark?

You drop your dog off and pick them up, which is the part most Ozark owners ask about first. For the one and two week programs your dog lives and trains at the trainer's home for the whole stay, not in a kennel run. You get daily updates with a photo or video of the work, and at the end you sit down for a two hour one-on-one session where your trainer shows you exactly how to handle everything your dog has learned so it holds up once you are home.

How much does dog training cost in Ozark?

Obedience lessons start at $650 for the four-lesson basic package and $950 for the eight-lesson basic and advanced package. Board and train runs $1,800 for one week, $2,800 for two weeks, and $3,800 for the behavior modification program. Every price is listed on the plans and pricing page. Payment plans are available. Call us today to learn more about payment options. Those prices are the same wherever you drive in from, including Ozark.

How old does my puppy have to be before training starts?

We do not start e-collar training until a dog is at least five months old, and that is our own stated rule on the FAQ page, not a rough guide. If your puppy is younger than that, Basic Marker Mastery is the right starting point: four reward-based sessions using a clicker and marker work to build come, sit, place and loose-leash walking. There is also a 10-Day Pawsitive Foundation Puppy Board and Train for puppies between twelve and twenty-four weeks. Owners in Ozark usually start there and move up once the puppy is old enough.

Should I do lessons or send my dog away for board and train?

Lessons are four or eight one-on-one hours with you doing the daily work between sessions, and they are a good fit if you have the time and your dog does not have a serious problem. Board and train is two weeks of the trainer doing that work every day, finished off leash and outdoors with distractions, and it is the only route to genuine off-leash reliability. Since Ozark is a short drive up US 65, either one is practical here. A free phone consultation is the fastest way to work out which.
