Start Your Puppy Right

The right start, at the right age

You do not have to wait until your puppy is grown. We generally do not start e-collar training until a dog is at least five months old, so for younger puppies the work is reward-based: clicker and marker training, confidence building, and the housebreaking and crate habits that make the first year far easier. When your puppy hits five months, the same dog steps straight into formal obedience training with a foundation already in place.

What Puppy Training Covers

What puppy training covers

Start from twelve weeks

The ten-day puppy board and train takes puppies from twelve to twenty-four weeks old.

Reward-based methods

Positive reinforcement, encouraging markers and clicker training. No e-collars and no prong collars.

Housebreaking and crate habits

We help set up a schedule so housebreaking and crate training keep working once your puppy is home.

Manners and socialization

Greeting manners so your puppy is not jumping, plus place, recall and loose-leash walking.

A foundation to build on

Everything your puppy learns now is the base for formal obedience once they reach five months.

“When we got her back after 2 weeks, she was the same puppy but just well behaved... she travels easily, stays close by in public even without her leash. She never takes off, waits for direction and is overall confident and happy.”

“Our puppy loved her from the moments she met her and learning so much!! Breanna was detailed with us in the training after we picked Hazel up! And continues to help if we need anything!”

Puppy training questions

How old does my puppy need to be to start?

Reward-based puppy lessons can start as soon as your puppy is home, and the ten-day puppy board and train takes puppies from twelve to twenty-four weeks old. E-collar obedience training is different: we generally do not start that until a dog is at least five months old.

What if my puppy is not five months old yet?

Not a problem. We can still train your pup using the clicker and treat method, which is exactly what Basic Marker Mastery is built on. That gives your puppy a solid foundation in basic obedience, and we can also teach you how to house train your puppy so they learn to let you know they need to go out.

What is clicker training?

A clicker is a small device that makes a distinct click. The click instantly marks the behavior you wanted, and is followed straight away by a treat. Because the mark is instant, your puppy learns commands faster: the click is the moment they know they got it right.

Is there anything I can do at home before training starts?

Yes. Off Leash K9 produces an online puppy training video course covering potty training, crate confidence, marker training and the most common puppy problems. It is listed with a link on our plans and pricing page.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. Payment plans are available. Call us today to learn more about payment options.
