A short drive, and a dog that listens the first time
Nixa is about six miles south of Springfield, which makes it one of the easiest towns in our area to train from. Most Nixa dogs come to us for obedience lessons or the two week board and train, and puppies usually start with marker work before they are old enough for anything else.
Built for how Nixa dogs actually live
Nixa sits in Christian County about six miles south of Springfield, close enough that a great many families here commute north every day and still make an evening training session without rearranging the week. Missouri Route 14 links the town east toward Ozark. Short drive, real trainer, no compromise on the program.
It is a growing town of new subdivisions, sidewalks and neighbors close on both sides, and that shapes the problems we get called about. Pulling on the leash, barking at everything that passes the front window, jumping on visitors and a recall that stops working the second the front door opens are the four we hear most from Nixa.
None of those need a specialist program. They need the six core commands taught properly and then proofed against distractions, which is what the basic and the basic and advanced packages do, with loose-leash walking taught as the fourth lesson and a 15 ft training leash included.
What your dog learns with us in Nixa
The core commands
Come, sit, place, down, heel and off. The same six commands sit at the base of every Off Leash K9 package, whether you train in lessons or send your dog for board and train.
Loose-leash walking
The fourth basic obedience lesson is loose-leash walking, so your dog walks beside you instead of towing you down the sidewalk. A 15 ft training leash is included with the package.
Off-leash reliability
Built through the two week board and train, where your dog works off leash, outdoors, with real distractions in play. It is a board and train outcome, not something lessons alone deliver.
Manners that hold up in public
Door, greeting and meal manners, plus socialization around people and other dogs and high-level distraction proofing, all covered in the two week board and train.
Daily updates, then a full handover
Your trainer sends daily updates with a photo or video while your dog is with them, and finishes with a two hour one-on-one session showing you how to handle everything your dog has learned.

Dog training in Nixa, answered
Do you train dogs in Nixa, MO?
Yes. Nixa is inside the area Off Leash K9 Training Southwest Missouri covers. We are not a walk-in storefront, so your trainer confirms the training location with you when you book. One thing worth knowing up front: we generally do not train dogs inside your house. It is easy for a dog to listen at home, and a dog that only listens at home has not really learned the command. Training in an unfamiliar place, with distractions, is what makes obedience hold up anywhere.
How does board and train work if I live in Nixa?
You drop your dog off and pick them up, which is the part most Nixa owners ask about first. For the one and two week programs your dog lives and trains at the trainer's home for the whole stay, not in a kennel run. You get daily updates with a photo or video of the work, and at the end you sit down for a two hour one-on-one session where your trainer shows you exactly how to handle everything your dog has learned so it holds up once you are home.
How much does dog training cost in Nixa?
Obedience lessons start at $650 for the four-lesson basic package and $950 for the eight-lesson basic and advanced package. Board and train runs $1,800 for one week, $2,800 for two weeks, and $3,800 for the behavior modification program. Every price is listed on the plans and pricing page. Payment plans are available. Call us today to learn more about payment options. Those prices are the same wherever you drive in from, including Nixa.
How old does my puppy have to be before training starts?
We do not start e-collar training until a dog is at least five months old, and that is our own stated rule on the FAQ page, not a rough guide. If your puppy is younger than that, Basic Marker Mastery is the right starting point: four reward-based sessions using a clicker and marker work to build come, sit, place and loose-leash walking. There is also a 10-Day Pawsitive Foundation Puppy Board and Train for puppies between twelve and twenty-four weeks. Owners in Nixa usually start there and move up once the puppy is old enough.
My dog pulls on the leash and barks at every dog we pass. Where do we start?
Start with a free phone consultation, and expect the answer to be obedience rather than a special anti-pulling tool. Loose-leash walking is the fourth lesson of the basic obedience package, and the barking usually eases once "off" is reliable and your dog is taking direction from you instead of deciding for itself. If your dog is genuinely aggressive toward other dogs rather than over-excited, say so on the call, because that is a different program with a muzzle training requirement.
