Obedience You Can Rely On

Obedience that holds up outside the living room

A dog that listens perfectly at home and forgets every command at the park does not have reliable obedience yet. Our lessons build the core commands one-on-one with your trainer, then proof them against the distractions your dog actually meets. For obedience that comes back locked in, including off-leash work, our two-week board and train is the program that gets there.

What Your Dog Learns

What obedience training covers

The core commands

Come, sit, place, down, heel and off. The six commands every Off Leash K9 obedience package is built on.

Loose-leash walking

Taught in the fourth basic lesson: your dog walks right beside you instead of dragging you down the street.

Advanced skills

Distance down, sit in motion, and come to heel, added in the eight-lesson basic and advanced package.

Off-leash reliability

Built through board and train, where your dog works off leash, outside, with distractions in play.

Everyday manners

Off for any unwanted behavior, plus door manners and socialization in the two-week board and train.

Programs

Obedience programs and pricing

Lessons are private, one-on-one hours with your trainer. Board and train is an immersive stay where your dog lives and works with a professional trainer. E-collar obedience starts once your dog is at least five months old. Payment plans are available, and every package is listed on our plans and pricing page.

What Southwest Missouri dog owners say

“McKenzie picked up on his triggers right away and had thoughtful solutions that worked out when implemented consistently. The way I look at it, she wasn’t training him, she was training me. And she did a great job! 10/10 for sure.”

Amy WigginsVerified Google review

“She came back not only knowing how to follow commands, but holds them until she is told to “Break”. She now walks great on a leash and heels very well. She is also following the rules a lot better at home.”

Madison NewkirkVerified Google review

“We love being able to take her everywhere with us now because she is obedient and follows our commands even with tons of distractions around.”

Obedience training questions

What commands does obedience training cover?

Our basic obedience package covers come, sit, place, down, heel and off, and the fourth lesson is loose-leash walking. The basic and advanced package adds distance down, sit in motion, and come to heel across eight lessons.

How old does my dog need to be to start?

We generally do not start e-collar training on a dog until it is at least five months old. Younger puppies start on the clicker and marker method instead, which is what our puppy training programs are built around. Beyond that there is no upper limit: e-collar training works on a dog of any size, shape and age above five months.

What is the difference between lessons and board and train?

Lessons are private hours with your trainer where you learn to handle your own dog. Board and train is immersive: your dog lives and trains with a professional trainer for one or two weeks, then you get a two-hour handover session covering everything your dog has learned.

Where do the lessons take place?

Your trainer will confirm the training location when you book. We generally do not like to train dogs inside the house, because it is easy for a dog to listen in a familiar environment. Train somewhere unfamiliar, with real distractions, and your dog will listen anywhere.

Do you offer payment plans?
