Therapy Dog Development

Prepared for the test, and for the work

A therapy dog has to be reliable in rooms full of strangers, noise and movement, which is a much higher bar than obedience at home. Therapy Dog Development is two weeks of immersive board and train aimed squarely at that bar: the full command set, public manners, and handling multiple distractions in multiple environments, so you and your dog arrive at testing ready.

What The Program Covers

What Therapy Dog Development covers

The full command set

Come, sit, place, heel, down and off, plus come to heel and extended distance sit and place.

Public manners

Door manners, greeting manners and meal manners, which is where most therapy candidates come unstuck.

Multiple distractions

Handling multiple distractions in multiple environments, not just a quiet training room.

Daily updates

A photo or a video of your dog in training from your trainer, every day they are boarding.

Before and after video

A transformation video at the end of the program so you can see exactly what changed.

Programs

Therapy dog programs and pricing

Therapy Dog Development is two weeks of immersive board and train and includes the e-collar your dog is trained on. It prepares you and your dog for therapy dog testing and certification; the test itself is run by the certifying organization, not by us. Payment plans are available, and every package is listed on our plans and pricing page.

What Southwest Missouri dog owners say

“It’s wonderful knowing we can be on our property or at Lowes... knowing she will respond to our commands. No longer do we give repetitive commands. No yelling.”

Willy TilleyVerified Google review

“Picking them up the trainer spent time with me showing how to do the commands and how to redirect them if they got distracted. I have had them out in Menard’s, Walmart, Rv dealer, outside restaurants, and walking in the neighborhood...”

Vickie BilginVerified Google review

“I was very pleased by the outcome of the training. Established a great foundation for me to continue to build on. Offered follow up sessions to check in on how it was going, even driving up to an hour to meet us!”

Therapy dog training questions

What does the therapy dog program cover?

Two weeks of immersive training on come, sit, place, heel, down and off, plus come to heel and extended distance sit and place, load up, and door, greeting and meal manners, all worked around multiple distractions in multiple environments. The program page lists everything included.

Does this certify my dog as a therapy dog?

No. The program prepares you and your dog for therapy dog testing and certification. The test itself is run by a certifying organization, not by Off Leash K9 Training, so the certificate comes from them.

How old does my dog need to be?

The program includes the e-collar, and we generally do not start e-collar training on a dog until it is at least five months old. For younger dogs, start with our puppy programs and come back to therapy work later.

What updates do I get while my dog is boarding?

Your trainer sends a photo or a video of your dog in training every day, and you get a before and after transformation video at the end of the two weeks.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. Payment plans are available. Call us today to learn more about payment options.
