Winnie is a mini Bernedoodle who came to Off Leash K9 Training Southwest Missouri at seven months old. Her owner’s biggest worry was not the nipping. It was that Winnie had gotten away from her more than once, and might not come back the next time.

Where Winnie Started

Winnie was not listening. She had already slipped away from her owner a couple of times, and the fear of losing her for good was constant.

On top of that came the nipping and biting, at her owner and at any guest who walked through the door. Her owner’s word for living with it was exhausting, which is the right word. A seven-month-old dog with no off switch wears a household down.

The Training Journey

Her owner chose the two-week board and train deliberately, reasoning that a more intense and consistent program would suit Winnie better than an hour here and there. That instinct was right.

Breanna sent videos and photos every day, with a summary of what the two of them had worked on. Two weeks is a long time to be away from a young dog, and that daily contact is how we keep an owner part of the process instead of on the outside of it.

When the two weeks were up, Bre spent a couple of hours with Winnie’s owner teaching her the commands and practicing them together. Her owner describes Bre as patient, extremely knowledgeable, and sweet but firm with Winnie, a combination she says works perfectly on this dog.

Winnie’s Wins

Winnie is much calmer. She listens when her name is called and follows the command that comes after it, which is exactly the piece that was missing when she was getting loose.

Her owner is also honest that they still have practicing to do, and we would rather quote that than pretend otherwise. Training is a skill the whole household keeps up. Her verdict on the program was that it delivered.

What It Changed at Home

Guests can come over. The nipping that made ordinary visits stressful is behind them, and the low-level fear of an escape has been replaced by a dog who comes when she is called.
